Bird Surveys

We carry out bird surveys to understand how birds are using a site - from breeding activity to winter flocks - helping inform conservation decisions and keep projects compliant.

Birds are one of the most visible indicators of ecological change. Whether it's tracking the return of farmland species, monitoring reedbed specialists, or checking for nesting birds ahead of site clearance, we offer a range of surveys to build a clearer picture of how birds are responding to habitats.

We carry out breeding bird surveys (BBS), winter bird counts, territory mapping, and nesting checks. Our work can feed into conservation management plans, restoration projects, or Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, as well as meeting legal obligations around nesting bird protection.

We tailor our approach to each site, focusing on species of conservation concern where appropriate, and providing honest, practical advice that balances ecological outcomes with project needs.

Our service includes:

• Breeding bird surveys using standardised transects and territory mapping
• Nesting checks prior to works during the breeding season
• Winter bird surveys to record overwintering and migratory species
• Focus on species of conservation concern where relevant (e.g. skylark, yellowhammer, lapwing)
• Supports restoration, management, and compliance with wildlife legislation
